英語で学習する
英語圏の国の大学に通うのは骨が折れるものです。しかしその分、昨今の若いタイ人はそれで報われている部分も事実です。留学先としては、アメリカとイギリスが依然人気ですが、その一方で、オーストラリアやカナダ、ニュージーランドやヨーロッパ諸国にも多くの留学生が見られます。英語上達は、海外留学をする上でひとつの大きな課題となるのです。

英語はイギリスにおいて使われ始めてから、現在では世界中で親しまれています。イギリス、アメリカ、カナダ、オーストラリア、アイルランド、カリブ諸国など、国民の大多数が英語を話す、という国も、当然のように多いものです。世界で３番目に、母国語として話される機会の多い言語です。EU、英連邦、UN、その他諸機関においても、広く学習される第２外国語であると同時に、公式言語であります。
Lingua Franca
英語は広く話されるがゆえに、「世界言語」とさえ呼ばれます。つまり現代における共通語であり、英語が公用語ではない国においても、最もよく学習されている言語と言えます。国際協定においては、航空および海上においての公式言語です。英語は、UNをはじめ、国際オリンピック委員会ほか、多くの国際機関における公式言語となっています。英語で書かれた本、雑誌、新聞は世界中で入手可能となっており、科学の分野においては、英語圏の著者はそのたった半分であるにも拘らず、９５％の記事が英語で書かれたものです。
